︎ Hybrid Book
For the Type II final, I designed a hybrid book incorporating multiple bodies of text (2 essays and a poem) about time.
Using the layout as a metaphor for the loss of time, the minimalistic black and white book becomes increasingly empty as it progresses.

︎ Creative Coding
Based off of an image I have taken, I experimented with the concept of light and afterimage.
I coded a generator that “remixes” the image and maps a custom color library to parts of the remixed image to simulate afterimages.
Generative processes is an integral theme of this project. Not only is it reflected through the code, it is also seen within the color palettes. I picked colors from the original image and mixing them “manually” using transparencies and blending modes to generate new colors.

︎ Parody
Tasked with transforming a government document to form a critical narrative, I transformed a document from Japan’s 2015 Cool Japan initiative to highlight the absurdity of an official attempt to commercialize national/cultural identity.
The form of the piece appropriates the body pillow, an iconic piece of merchandise from the anime industry associated with “weeaboos” (extreme Japanophiles). The tension between the kitsch aesthetic of the piece and the document it presents creates a humorous dialogue.

︎ Typesetting
For an editorial design assignment, I designed an original layout for Federer Both Flesh and Not, a David Foster Wallace essay on Tennis and Roger Federer. My typesetting is finetuned based on industry standards. I also transferred the visual system of the print version to web editorial design through the web design platform Readymag.
